Wastewater Treatment Plant – Head Operator ( EGLE Certified Class B or C)

The City of New Baltimore Wastewater Treatment Plant is seeking an experienced State of Michigan EGLE–certified Class B Sewage Treatment Works Operator to serve as Head Operator. Highly qualified Class C Operators who are actively pursuing Class B certification will also be considered.

This is a leadership role with direct responsibility for plant operations, regulatory compliance, and staff coordination.

Minimum Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • College coursework in wastewater treatment or a related field preferred

Required Certification

  • Michigan EGLE Class B Sewage Treatment Works Operator license (preferred)
  • Class C operators must demonstrate eligibility and commitment to obtain Class B licensure

Job-Related Skills & Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience operating municipal wastewater treatment facilities
  • Strong leadership, accountability, and decision-making skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and process control systems
  • Background in chemistry, biology, and mathematics related to wastewater treatment
  • Proficient with computers, SCADA systems, and Microsoft Office
  • Skilled in operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of wastewater treatment equipment
  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures, EGLE regulations, and permit compliance

Physical & Work Requirements

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Ability to work in confined space environments as required
  • Good physical condition; ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Required to respond promptly to plant alarms and operational issues as needed
  • Required to work scheduled overtime (approximately 4 hours per week every 4th week)
  • Required to work City of New Baltimore–recognized holidays (every 4th of 15 holidays)
  • Emergency overtime as needed

Compensation & Benefits
