MRWA Water Circuit Rider
In 1980, the USDA Farmers Home Administration, in collaboration with NRWA, established the Rural Water Circuit Rider Program. This program provides a nationwide team of drinking water professionals to provide training and technical assistance to water utility managers, boards and Operations Specialists. This training is designed as on-site, hands-on, activity-based training, where participants take ownership in learning how to resolve their current and future problems. The program is designed to protect USDA Rural Development’s current water utility infrastructure investments and help them plan for a more sustainable future.
Circuit Rider Employment Requirements
1. 1. Position requires minimum of 5 years’ experience in working for, operating, maintaining, or managing a rural/community water system with at minimum S-4 and/or D-4 Water License with preference to for higher level Michigan Water Licenses.
2. A well-rounded technical knowledge of rural and small systems needs and methods of meeting those needs.
3. Technical knowledge of operating, maintaining, and managing a rural/community water system.
4. Knowledge of the financial, managerial and operation characteristics of effectively run utility systems.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with operations specialists, decision makers, regulatory agencies and other professionals.
6. Ability to identify and describe financial, managerial, and operational issues to field personnel and decision makers.
7. Knowledge an understanding of regulations, monitoring, and reporting requirements.
8. Willingness to travel extensively.
9. Written approval of the NRWA Administrator/Program Manager prior to employment.
MRWA offers a comprehensive wage package and benefits package. The starting wage is dependent upon qualifications.
