The Coldwater Board of Public Utilities (CBPU) is seeking an individual to operate, monitor and maintain the processes involved in treating wastewater at our Wastewater Resource Recovery Facility (WRRF) to include, but not limited to, collect and test samples, record data, perform maintenance, maintain equipment and follow all safety regulations to ensure safe water discharge. This position may be subject to after-hours duty and may also be required to be on stand-by-status. 


RESPONSIBILITIES, ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

•  Monitor treatment processes, read gauges and meters, adjust values to regulate flow to maintain optimal performance

• Operate and maintain all WRRF equipment, buildings and grounds

• Identify and report issues requiring repairs

• Collect samples and perform lab tests to analyze water quality

• Record data, maintain logs and records and document operational actions

• Maintain the sanitary collection system and lift stations

• Complete work orders in a timely manner

• Perform site inspections and collect samples from industrial sites

• Perform storm water site inspections

• Respond to customer complaints and issues related to services

• Ensure all safety regulations are followed to maintain a safe working environment

• Perform all other duties as may be assigned


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Must be physically mobile

• Must be able to climb elevated structures or into confined spaces

• Must be able to operate various equipment used in building and grounds repair and maintenance

• Must be able to lift/move 100 pounds or more

• Must be mechanically inclined

• Must be able to stand, use hands to finger, handle/feel, reach with hands/arms, walk, talk, hear, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl

• Must be able to work outside in varying weather conditions and perform under adverse field conditions


QUALIFICATIONS, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Knowledge of the operation of a wastewater plant

• Knowledge of a sanitary collections system including lift stations

• Must have strong mathematical skills and mechanical aptitude

• Must have strong written and oral communication skills

• Ability to read and interpret operating manuals, safety rules and maintenance instructions

• Ability to operate computers and various other related technologies

• Must be able to follow all safety policies and procedures

• Ability to make decisions frequently in emergency situations, time constraints and long hours

• Ability to work independently or with co-workers

• Willingness to work after hours TRAINING/EXPERIENCE

• High school graduate or equivalent required

• Must hold a valid State of Michigan Class D Municipal Wastewater Certification

• Minimum one (1) to three (3) years of wastewater experience

• Must have a valid driver’s license

• Must maintain current and any future licensing
