Primary function of this position will be to assist Water Department Superintendent and DPW Maintenance Supervisor in day to day operations. This position requires some weekend and holiday hours, including on-call duty. Some duties may include performing lab tests, testing equipment in the water plant and in the field, maintaining and repairing water and sewer infrastructure and equipment. The Public Works General Laborer is responsible for the general maintenance and repair of all public streets, sanitary sewers, storm sewers, public buildings, parks and other facilities of public trust. Further duties include, but are not limited to street sweeping, patching or pot hole filling, mowing, tree care and maintenance, use of all safety equipment provided to complete assigned tasks, operating all department controlled equipment and vehicle, such as back hoes, end loaders, dump trucks, street sweepers, power wash/jets, mowers and all other assigned equipment and vehicles, general repair and maintenance on all department controlled equipment and vehicles. The ideal candidate will maintain a friendly and helpful working relationship with co-workers, citizens, and public officials as well as perform any and all other tasks as assigned.

Applicant must be able to pass a background investigation. Must be able to pass pre-employment medical/drug/alcohol testing for the ability to perform the essential functions of the position and maintain a level of physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the essential function of the position. Must have a valid State of Michigan license and have a driving record acceptable to the Village of DeTour and the Village’s insurance carrier. Must possess an F-4 Filtration Certification or be able to obtain one within one year of hire date. DeTour Village will reimburse for necessary costs associated with certification process for water filtration licensing, upon receiving proof of a passing result.
