Job Summary

To analyze and correct problems within the water system and maintain and troubleshoot water treatment equipment and controls and contribute to the daily functions of the water department systems in a safe and effective manner.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Ensure the proper operation of the water treatment lab testing in order to meet proper water quality standards. Ensure proper calibration and maintenance of all lab instrumentation. Ensure that proper levels and pressures are maintained for all zones of the water distribution and containment system by monitoring charts and/or making visual checks. Ensure that all pumps and telemetry are running properly and troubleshoot and address any issues that may arise. Monitor Chlorine and Turbidity Charts for proper levels and adjust when necessary. Backwash filters when necessary.

  • Power up or shut down the Water Plant when necessary, by turning on or off pumps and adding necessary chemicals.

  • Produce monthly reports by updating data daily and weekly.

  • Make meter calls in order to perform the meter shut off/turn-on or meter reads when required or requested.

  • Interface and perform duties related to the Miss Dig system whenever necessary.

  • Perform all necessary plant tank and distribution system maintenance/repairs including but not limited to repairs and maintenance of pumps, painting, cleaning, fire hydrants, curb boxes and others based on proper safety procedures and water quality requirements.

  • Maintain proper calculations of chemicals for inventory control and reporting functions on monthly reports.

  • Perform jar testing, when necessary, in order to plan and make necessary chemical feed adjustments.

  • Perform meter testing and ensure meters are within 1.5% tolerance

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Attend all necessary safety training and monthly meetings.

  • Attend bi-annual meetings to meet continuing education credit requirements and maintain license level. Maintain cross training for wastewater treatment duties.

  • Assist the Department of Public Works for snow removal and other duties as necessary.

Desired Minimum Qualifications:

Associate Degree of Science in related field. Ability to use windows-based software.

Supervision Received:

Works under the general guidance and direction of the Superintendent of the Water Department

Supervision Exercised:

Occasionally supervise seasonal or Co-op workers.

Responsibility for Public Contact:

Daily contact requiring courtesy, discretion and sound judgment is needed.

Licensing and Certification:

Commercial Drivers License is required for this position. F4, S4 and D water treatment licenses. All necessary wastewater licenses.
