DPW Mechanic

The City of Ionia is seeking qualified applicants for the full-time position of Department of Public Works Mechanic. Duties include maintaining, repairing, and overhauling heavy and light trucks, construction equipment, other vehicles, small gasoline engines, and stationary and similar equipment. The Mechanic also operates a variety of hand, power, and shop tools. Work hours include weekdays, along with occasional call-ins.

 Position reports to the Director of Public Works. Requires graduation from high school or GED,  supplemented by completion of a recognized apprenticeship in the automotive trade and two years of journey-level vehicle and equipment services repair experience. Master mechanic’s license preferred. Must also possess Michigan CDL-B with air brakes endorsement. Starting wage per the collective bargaining agreement: $25.86 per hour; $32.80 after two years. Overall compensation package includes excellent fringe benefits, with paid vacation and sick leave, outstanding family health insurance, hybrid pension plan, and 8% employer-funded deferred compensation plan, among other benefits. Successful completion of pre-employment physical and CDL drug testing required.
