Position Title: Department of Public Works Supervisor 

Position Type: Full time, Non-exempt, union

Rate of Pay: $32.66 / hour (additional license premium applies)

Shift: 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m PLUS evenings and weekends as required

Start date: Immediate  


SUMMARY

Plan, supervise and participate in the activities involving the repair and maintenance of the township sewer system, water system, parks and cemetery.   Maintain department workflow documents and other records. Perform related work as required.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED

Reports directly to the Director of Public Services.  

SUPERVISION EXERCISED

Supervision is exercised over a moderate sized staff (3-4) of Public Works employees.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND FUNCTIONS

• Plan, supervise, train, and participate in the work activities of public works employees engaged in maintenance and repair of water and sewer system facilities, township buildings, parks and cemetery grounds.

• Oversee the operation and maintain maintenance of all public works equipment including the backhoe, tractors with end loaders, brush-hog, a small  front-end loader and various sized trucks. 

• Implement and maintain safety training and records.

• Respond to and manage  “ON CALL” emergencies as required.

• Participate in the preparation and administration of budgets.

• Responsible for all State and Federal records and reports as they pertain to water distribution and sewer collection.

Desired education and work experience include graduation from an accredited high school supplemented with two years of college in technical training, civil engineering, construction principles or related area.

Four-years’ experience in performing responsible work involving public works construction, water and sewer repair and maintenance and other related activities, including some supervisory experience.

Must possess and maintain an S-2 certification OR have the ability and qualifications required to obtain the S-2 within 12 months of hire.

Must possess and maintain a valid Michigan Driver’s License.
