WATER TREATMENT FACILITY OPERATOR
The City of Fenton is seeking candidates to fill a Department of Public Works Water Treatment Plant Operator position that has recently become available due to the senior water operator retiring after over 20 years of service to the city. The full-time position consists of serving the community as a Facility Operator at the city’s Water Treatment Plant. The City of Fenton Water Treatment Plant was constructed in 2003 and is a 4.0 million gallon per day lime softening plant that treats and distributes water to over 4,000 water customers. The City of Fenton, population 11,863, is a seven square mile vibrant community located in southeast Genessee County with small portions located in Oakland and Livingston County. With a recently renovated busy downtown, Fenton is a popular destination to shop, dine and enjoy many downtown events, as well as our seven city parks and Silver Lake public beach.
As a Facility Operator, experience in water treatment, laboratory work, and water distribution with a State of Michigan current F license is preferred. However, candidates without an F license will be considered. Candidates without an F license will be required to obtain an F4 license within one year from their hire date, or two exam license testing periods. The ideal candidate will have excellent oral, written, interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Mechanical aptitude and ability to work in a laboratory environment is a significant portion of the job responsibilities.
This is a full-time collective bargaining unit position (TPOAM) with excellent medical, dental and optical benefits available on the date of hire. 401k retirement, 11 paid holidays and five vacation days after the 90-day probation period are included in first year of employment. Additional vacations days in preceding years along with longevity pay benefits. Starting wage with F license is $ 26.91/hour and $ 28.14/hour after one year of service. Unlicensed Operator starting wage is $ 24.71/hour and $ 25.96/hour after six-months
