Maximum: $29.96/hour

Per 2021-2025 AFSCME* contract

The Water & Sewer Division is dedicated to serving residents of the City of Troy by ensuring that the quality of the drinking water is above all standards and that water needed to fight fires is never compromised. They are also dedicated to ensuring the safe and efficient discharge of wastewater to the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) waste treatment facility.

 

DUTIES

·      Perform general labor and maintenance work, storm and sanitary sewer maintenance and clean-out, water main maintenance and repair, and locate underground utilities.

·      Snow removal on major and subdivision roads.

·      Operate and performs routine maintenance on light power equipment including boring machines, water and sewer maintenance equipment, jackhammers, etc.

·       Use non-power tools including shovels, rakes, wrenches, wheelbarrows, etc.

·       Operate trucks, tractors, loaders, sewer cleaning equipment, etc.

·       Perform other similar work assignments.

 

REQUIREMENTS

·      High school graduate (or GED equivalent).

·      Recent paid work experience as an indoor and outdoor laborer or light equipment operator.

·      Must have at the time of application, and maintain, a valid Michigan driver license with a good driving record (based on City of Troy standards).

·      Will be required to obtain a CDL (Commercial Driver’s License), including air brakes and (N) endorsement, and Medical Card as required by the State of Michigan before probation period is complete.

·      As a condition of employment, the successful candidate must pass a pre-employment physical and drug screen (including marijuana).  

 

PREFERENCES

·      Two (2) or more years of recent experience working on water main systems.

·      Knowledge of the operation of mechanical and power equipment and traffic and safety rules and regulations concerning the use of this equipment.

·      Current State of Michigan S-4 Water Distribution Certification.

·      Current CDL (Commercial Driver’s License) including air brakes and (N) endorsement

 

HOURS

Monday – Friday; 6:30 am – 3:00 pm.

Overtime is required; employees are expected to work 50% of offered overtime

 

EVALUATION PROCESS

 

Demonstration: 50%

Interview: 50%

*Applicants must receive at least a score of 70 on each portion be placed on the eligible list.
