General Summary: To work under the direction of the Water Treatment Plant Supervisor in the operation and maintenance of water treatment plant and associated equipment and facilities. Work responsibility includes the purification of raw water by means of a large, modern, treatment and filtration plant, and the pumping of finished water to the distribution system. Work involves rendering technical supervision and consultation to subordinates in accordance with departmental policies and procedures on all operational and maintenance problems pertaining to water production. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Director of Public Works, who reviews work for technical compliance to policy and established standards. Assist with supervising the operation, maintenance, and repair of water production, treatment and storage equipment and facilities. Coordinates all pump, purification, treatment, laboratory, maintenance, and storage activities; inspects operations of pumping and treatment plants for conformance with standard operational procedures and standards.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or   move objects of light to moderate weight. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving outdoor weather and manufacturing sites. The employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, vibration, and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment ranges from quiet to loud.


Eligibility Requirements: Must possess valid State of Michigan F-2 license and a valid Michigan driver’s license. Either (1) two years of college in the science field and one year of supervisory experience, or (2) any equivalent combination of education and experience. Some experience in filtration and softening, plant; industry; resourcefulness; good judgement; initiative and dependability. In addition to the above requirements, all city positions require: The ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language as necessary for their position; the ability to follow written and oral instructions; and the ability to get along with other employees and members of the public. City employees are also expected to possess and maintain a record of orderly law-abiding citizenship, sobriety, integrity and loyalty as it pertains to and  reflects  upon  their  employment  with  the  City;  and  must  be  physically and mentally able to perform the essential duties of their position without excessive absences.


Grade/Salary: 12/$59,550 - $83,273
